Diet and human life-styles have a potential effect on cancer in a community. Cancer of the gastrointestinal tract are probably closely related to diet and life-styles. Food, particularly fat, having even traces of pesticides in it, can prove carcinogenic in the long run.
Cancer is a multi-stage phenomenon. Interruption is possible at different stages.
Foods to Avoid for the Prevention of Cancer:
- Avoid color additives as much as possible. This is often difficult as many foods contain them, and a sensible balance may have to be accepted.
- Avoid food containing nitrites and nitrates, these are found mainly in preserved meats, e.g. bacon and other cured meats.
- Avoid artificial sweeteners if possible, e.g. saccharin.
Don’t forget to wash insecticides off all fresh fruit and vegetables.
Foods to Enhance the Effectiveness of Cancer Medical Therapy:
Adding foods that are dense concentrates of nutrients to a diet can dramatically enhance the effectiveness of medical therapy. Some people have been seen to worry that since chemo and radiation therapies are pro-oxidant, antioxidants such as vitamins C, E and beta-carotene may neutralize the tumor-killing ability of these two therapies. Both animal and human studies have shown that this is not true. In fact antioxidants have been seen to enhance the tumor killing capability of chemo and radiation therapies.
Vitamin therapy has shown promise for cancer treatment. In a study by Finnish oncologists, lung cancer patients were given high doses of nutrients along with radiation and chemo therapy. In lung cancer, usually 1 percent survivors are expected after 30 months of routine medical treatment. However, in the study conducted by Finnish oncologists, 8 of 18 patients, that is 44 percent, who were given nutritional supplement were still alive 72 months after chemo and radiation therapy.
